James Coburn as Derek Flint cut a sleek, cat-like cold war spy who was the epitome of ‘60s cool in Our Man Flint (1965) and In Like Flint (1967). With the 2013 release of the Flint films in a limited edition Blu-ray format we are told through bonus material that a Flint script was written for James Coburn by Harlan Ellison in 1972 called Flintlock, but never produced.
So, with a nod to James Bond, here is Harlan Ellison’s original screenplay in a limited edition fashioned after the first edition (first state only) of Ian Fleming’s The Man with the Golden Gun, which had Francisco Scaramanga’s infamous pistol foil stamped in gold on the front board. Flintlock, bound in black silk on the numbered edition, has Derek Flint’s famous wrist-watch hand-stamped in gold on the front board. There were three thousand copies of each film produced in Blu-ray. There are only three hundred signed copies of Harlan’s script produced by hand with a new introduction by the author written June 25, 2013 for this edition.
