We are pleased to present for our ongoing Dispatch series a little-known work by one of America's most famous writers and author of The Call of the Wild, Jack London. Known for his writings on nature and his concern for social justice, London was also a pioneer in the development of the science fiction genre. In his story The Red One, London taps into the imagined potential of extraterrestrial life and the conflict between emotional intelligence and rational thought. Inspired by the psycho-spiritual writing of Carl Jung, London's story brings us to the intersection of philosophy, science, religion, and imagination. With The Red One, we look forward to taking you on an adventure that is beautiful, thought-provoking, and terrifying.

Jack London was an American novelist, journalist and activist best known for his iconic novels The Call of the Wild and White Fang. A pioneer of commercial fiction and American magazines, he was one of the first American authors to become an international celebrity and earn a fortune from his writing. He was also an innovator in the genre that would later become known as science fiction.
