We’re pleased to announce Penric and the Bandit, the latest novella-length adventure featuring Lois McMaster Bujold’s beloved characters, Penric and Desdemona.
About the Book:
Strange company…
When Rozakajin, road-weary bandit and army deserter, spots a hapless blond young man in a country inn with an intriguing treasure map, he thinks he’s scouted an easy and lucrative victim. Attaching himself to odd traveler Penric seems simple enough, but when Roz’s old enemies catch up from behind, his plans take a turn for the much worse. When Pen’s claim that I never travel alone proves true in ways Roz never imagined, his world becomes more frightening still—but also much wider than he’d ever dared to dream.
Limited: 1250 signed numbered hardcover copies
From Publishers Weekly:
“In the thrilling 13th Penric and Desdemona adventure (after Demon Daughter), Bujold sends temple sorcerer Pen and Des, the demon who shares his body, on a quest to track down some valuable and long-lost magical writings. The combination of mystery, action, and ethical conundrums proves as enjoyable as ever. Bujold shows no signs of slowing down.”
From Locus:
“Bujold’s prose is, as has been the case with all her mature work, deft and vivid without being ornate, elevated by the occasional simply gorgeous turn of phrase. Her grasp of tension and character remains that of a master craftswoman. While this may not be my favourite Penric and Desdemona novella (my heart is given to Mira’s Last Dance and The Prisoner of Limnos), nor the best one with which to begin the series (that remains Penric and the Demon, or perhaps Penric’s Mission) I enjoyed it deeply. It may, in fact, be the novella that best encapsulates the religious themes of this series. I recommend it.”
