Curious King, a new UK publisher run by the estimable Anthony Kaye, has announced they will be publishing The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

We've locked in a small number of copies of the Standard Edition to offer to our customers.

This is the Public Pre-Order page for the Curious King Edition of Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, illustrated by Gary Gianni with contributions from the original Radio/TV series.

Don’t Panic! We have a cure for unhappiness, and it just so happens to be our upcoming edition of “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams, illustrated by Gary Gianni!

This has been a labour of love for nearly two years now and is without doubt one of the most iconic pieces of Sci-Fi literature written. Securing the rights to publish a fine press version of this hilarious tale has been a genuine highlight for me since I started Curious King back in 2021. It is without doubt one of my publishing holy grails and I still have to pinch myself that it’s actually here!

To have Gary Gianni agree to illustrate this book was another incredible win, and to my mind he is absolutely the perfect person to take this on, and his work has certainly proved me right.

The design process has been long and intimidating, and I have been back and forth on literally all of the designs you see here, and there may still be some tweaks before it goes into production. However, overall I am incredibly happy with how each tier has turned out, and the value each one presents. We have really pushed each tier to it’s limits whilst trying to keep prices sensible.

I’m also very happy to announce that we will have some of the original The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy cast from the original radio show contribute to this release with signatures and afterword. The radio series preceded the novel, so thought it only right to have them involved. I didn’t want any ties to the movie, for obvious reasons…

I could quite happily talk about the beginnings and process of this release until the cows come home, but I know a of lot you are here to see what these things look like and how much they cost, so please go ahead and read on:

Standard Edition:

Each colourway is limited to 375 copies (750 in total). Printed Letterpress by Phil and Robert from Hand & Eye Letterpress on Munken Lynx Rough Ultra White 150gsm and is 276 pages in total. The colour images have been offset printed onto the page by Gomer Press, and the typography and B&W illustrations overprinted by Hand & Eye.

Quarter bound in Champagne Metallium Wicotex cloth and has hand marbled boards by Freya Scott of Paperwilds. The cover design has two colours of foil stamping, gold and white. The label affixed to the spine is the same marbled paper with another two hits of foil stamping. Handbound by the artisans at Ludlow Bookbinders.

The slipcase is also covered in the same cloth used on the spine and comes with another marbled paper label affixed on the back. There are two stamped designs on either side of the case, the classic “Whale” and “Petunia’s”.

This edition is signed by the contributors and the artist Gary Gianni.
