You’ll undoubtedly notice that the price of Absolution Gap is quite a bit higher than those for Revelation Space and Redemption Ark.
The progression goes like this:
- Revelation Space numbered edition ($175);
- Redemption Ark numbered edition ($200);
- Absolution Gap numbered edition ($225);
Absolution Gap cost more than twice as much to print and bind as Revelation Space did, partly because printing costs have increased steeply, and because Absolution Gap is a much longer book than Revelation Space.
Readers have been asking for additional art in our books. We have added four interior color plates to Absolution Gap, when compared to the earlier books, which caused what we spent on art to double.
Finally, what we pay for rights is based on the retail price of each copy sold. When the retail price goes up, so does what we pay for rights.
Though it may not seem logical, if it sells out, Absolution Gap will be very slightly less profitable than either Revelation Space or Redemption Ark.
