The Affair of the Chalk CliffsThe Affair of the Chalk Cliffs, James P. Blaylock’s longest excursion into steampunk territory in nearly two decades, is in stock and selling very well. As Publishers Weekly noted, “While many recent novels have picked up the steampunk banner, this one fully delivers, offering action, farce, tender relationships, and prose full of genuine Victorian cadence and flavor.”

We’re happy to add that Blaylock is penning another Langdon St. Ives novella for us.

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Subterranean: Tales of Dark Fantasy 2

For those of you interested in a stellar gathering of dark short fiction, look no further than Subterranean Tales of Dark Fantasy 2. We’re down to the final thirty trade copies of the anthology, which features a stellar lineup, including Joe Hill, Caitlin R. Kiernan, the always quirky William Browning Spencer, and a host of other fine writers. We’re mighty proud that Publishers Weekly graced it with a starred review, noting that “Subterranean Press founder Schafer follows 2008’s Subterranean: Tales of Dark Fantasy with a superb anthology of 11 twisty stories… Each tale has an element of the unexpected, playing delightfully on themes of individuality and unsettled outcomes.”

For those interested in the limited edition, we approved the sample slipcases earlier today, and are at work on the exclusive Joe R. Lansdale chapbook that will accompany it.

Robert McCammon — THE FIVE Headed into a Second Printing

Monday, May 16th, 2011

The Five

Robert McCammon’s new thriller, The Five, the one called “his best novel ever” by Stephen King, and “infused with power and passion, and laced with psychological horror and razor-sharp tension” in a Starred Review in Publishers Weekly, is headed into its second printing, less than a week after it started shipping.

(Important Note: For those have ordered signed or inscribed copies, Mr. McCammon will be here in early June to sign your books, which will ship immediately thereafter. Even though we just ordered a second printing, we have held back a number of firsts so individual customers may still order the more collectible printing of this major novel.)

The Five
may be in short supply out in the world for a few weeks. We’re sitting on purchase orders for thousands of copies, which will be filled as soon as the second printing arrives in our warehouse.

Robin Hobb and Megan Lindholm — INHERITANCE Special Extended

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Inheritance by Robin Hobb Megan Lindholm Cover Art Only.jpg

We’re proud to announce the signed limited edition of Inheritance and Other Stories by Robin Hobb and Megan Lindholm.

Our publication will consist of two stunning editions:

Deluxe Limited: 200 copies (numbered from 1-200) with a different dust jacket than the trade hardcover, plus full-color endsheets. The book itself will be leatherbound.

Limited:
800 copies (numbered from 201-1000) with the trade dust jacket, fully cloth bound.

Both editions of the book will be signed by Megan and Robin, and feature an original illustration by Tom Kidd at the head of each tale. (Those who have our edition of the Jack Vance tribute anthology, Songs of the Dying Earth, know the grace this adds to a book’s design.)

The editions are regularly $125 and $45. We failed to send a second newsletter last week mentioning that the special was ending, so we’ve decided to extend it until but until Friday, May 20. Until that date, the Deluxe Limited is only $85 (a savings of $40), and the regular limited $32 ($13 off the regular cover price.)

Please check out the book page for a more detailed description and the full table of contents.

Kelley Armstrong — COUNTERFEIT MAGIC Low Stock Report

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Counterfeit Magic

The last copies of the trade edition of Kelley Armstrong’s latest novella, Counterfeit Magic, have just gone out the door. The Signed, Limited Edition is over 90% sold out, so we don’t expect that edition to last much longer, either. We have no plans to reprint, so please get your order in before they’re all gone.

Our other Armstrong projects are progressing nicely: Her graphic novel, Becoming, which contains 16 pages of art and story not in the previous paperback incarnation, is at the printer already, while Angilram continues to turn in art regularly for the next novella, Hidden, which, at 40,000 words, is the longest story Kelley’s written for us to date.
