The Ammonite Violin & Others

Just a quick update on Caitlin R. Kiernan’s new short story collection, The Ammonite Violin & Others. They’ll ship as soon as the warehouse has a spare microsecond or three to run the postage for them.

Pat Rothfuss Shipping Update

The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle

We have now finished shipping out all individual preorders for the limited and trade editions of Patrick Rothfuss’s definitely not-a-children’s-picture book, The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle.

If you haven’t received an email notice that your order is en route, please hold off on emailing us until 7/23, as a) It’s always possible that the emails are a lagging a bit behind the actual shipping of the books; b) It’s always possible (part two) that we failed to send out a few of the shipping notifications, given the number of books we had to ship.

We’re now shipping the last of the initial large online retail and wholesale account orders for Princess, but do not plan on filling any more of these orders, which we continue to receive on an almost daily basis. Your best bet at this point is to snag one of the last 300 or so copies direct from us.

Thanks to everyone for your continued patience as this multi-week shipping marathon draws to a close.

Finally, we do have a small number of copies of the limited edition left, now that all the shipping is almost done. We’ll make those available to customers at some point in the coming weeks — we’re currently trying to figure out the best way to do so.

Daniel Abraham — More Reviews for LEVIATHAN WEPT AND OTHER STORIES

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Leviathan Wept and Other StoriesDaniel Abraham’s debut collection, Leviathan Wept and Other Stories, has just finished shipping, but that doesn’t mean the reviews have stopped. We have another pair to share with you…

From Library Journal:
“…these stories display the work of a brilliant storyteller and a superb evoker of thought and emotion.”

From Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist:
Leviathan Wept and Other Stories really impressed me. This collection of short fiction showcases the length and breadth of Daniel Abraham’s talent and imagination. Even more impressive is the fact that the author mixes it up in terms of styles and genres.”

Ted Chiang — Another Pair of Strong Reviews for THE LIFECYCLE OF SOFTWARE OBJECTS

Lifecycle of Software Objects by Ted Chiang.jpg

Ted Chiang’s acclaimed novella, The Lifecycle of Software Objects is making steady progress toward publication. The next (and final) step will be for us to approve a printed but unbound copy of the book, which we expect to do shortly.

In the meantime, Ted’s 160 page tale has been picking up more great reviews.

From Booklist:
“Chiang pares exposition and ethical reflection to the bone, without reducing an affecting story to an arid fable.”

From Locus:
“…[The Lifecycle of Software Objects] joins “Story of Your Life” and a handful of other tales which remind us that Chiang can write as movingly about characters as about ideas.”

Grab Bags — Over $500 Worth of Books for Only $99

Monday, July 12th, 2010

The Grab Bags are back.

Update: The Grab Bags are now sold out. Thanks to everyone who snagged one.

As near as we can tell, it’s been since this time in 2008 that we’ve had enough of a break in our schedule to offer full grab bags. We’re planning to move to a new warehouse and office this summer or fall, so figured now was a good time to clear some space. Our shippers will be assembling the grab bags in between shipping a few new titles.

And now for the particulars:

For $99, you’ll receive a Grab Bag of 12 to 14 hardcovers, a mix of signed limited and trade editions, including some titles never before offered as part of our specials. (We’re sorry but we cannot take requests for specific titles to be included or excluded from the Grab Bags.) The books we’re offering range from a number of just-published books to classic SubPress titles.

Each of these Grab Bags is guaranteed to have a value of at least $500, and we’re only selling a limited number of them, so get your order in now if you’re interested.

Special shipping charges apply ($25 US, $60 Canada, $100 Rest of the World). This offer may not be combined with any other coupons, specials, or savings certificates.

Please note: We’re selling a limited number of these grab bags. Once that quantity is reached—if it takes a few hours, one or two days, or a week—we’ll pull the offer from our site.

The First Illustration for Joe Abercrombie’s THE BLADE ITSELF

Blade Itself Interior number one.jpg

We’ve finally managed a bit of progress on Joe Abercrombie’s epic fantasy novel, The Blade Itself, as you can see from Alex Preuss’s first color plate for the limited edition. The book itself is fully designed and proofread, and not far off now that we’ll see the illustrations on a regular schedule.

Beyond the illustrations, we just have to manage the signature pages, have ARCs printed and sent out, and then Blade will be ready for the printer. Thanks to everyone for their patience. Sometimes these illustrated editions take longer to put together than we might like.

Caitlin R. Kiernan — THE AMMONITE VIOLIN & OTHERS Update

The Ammonite Violin & Others

We received the first copies of Caitlin R. Kiernan’s excellent new collection, The Ammonite Violin & Others, last week, and noticed a glaring error on the dust jacket, one big enough that we decided to have the djs reprinted rather than let the books out in the world with the error.

We’re expecting the books to be ready to pick up on July 13 or so, and will be shipping copies immediately after they land in our warehouse. Our apologies for the delay to everyone who preordered a copy, but we’d rather have things take a week or two longer than anticipated in order to get everything right.

Cherie Priest — More Views of CLEMENTINE

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Clementine

We couldn’t be happier that the newest pair of reviews for Cherie Priest’s short Clockwork Century novel Clementine (a sequel to her award-winner, Boneshaker) chose to touch on different aspects of the book, proving our contention that there really is something here for everyone.

To wit:

Fantasy Literature notes that Clementine delivers “a nearly non-stop barrage of crowd-pleasing entertainment rivaling anything currently produced by Hollywood….” while according to San Francisco Book Review, “Her decision to feature protagonists from marginalized groups strengthens the story by adding an interesting layer to the conflict.”

John Scalzi — Praise for JUDGE SN GOES GOLFING

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Judge Sn Goes Golfing

Reviews of chapbooks are rare beasts, so we were pleased not only to see the San Francisco Book Review give coverage to John Scalzi’s Judge Sn Goes Golfing but by what they had to say as well: “Judge Sn Goes Golfing is the hilarious chapbook by the Hugo and John W. Campbell award-winning author John Scalzi. Set in the world of his popular The Android’s Dream novel, the story tells the tale of how Judge Nugan Bufan Sn—a selfish and socially awkward but intelligent jurist—goes golfing on the one course still open to him… Illustrated throughout by The New Yorker cartoon contributor Gahan Wilson, this short story is a side-splitting must read.”
