Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Grave Peril by Jim Butcher.jpg

The limited edition of the third entry in Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series, Grave Peril, is almost ready to go to the printer. As you can see, Vincent Chong has done another bang up job on the cover, and is finishing the interior illustrations this week. We’ve already designed and proofed Peril, and are having the signature pages printed to be sent to Jim to set his pen to. At 384 pages, this is the longest of the limited editions thus far.

Finally, to make our edition even more attractive, we’re offering $15 off the limited or lettered edition to those who order before Friday, September 4. Please don’t forget to mention the number or letter in the series you’re collecting when you order.

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The Martian ChroniclesIf you’ll head over to The Martian Chronicles: The Complete Edition page, we’ve just posted Joe Hill’s introduction to the uncollected/ unpublished section of the book. We received very strong pieces from John Scalzi, Marc Scott Zicree, Richard Matheson, and Joe, and wanted to share the latter’s contribution, “Undiscovered Mars, Unseen Bradbury” with everyone.

THE EVIL AT PEMBERLEY HOUSE by Philip Jose Farmer and Win Scott Eckert

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The Evil at Pemberley HouseWe’ll just get out of the way and let the Booklist review of The Evil at Pemberley House speak for itself: “In the many novels of the Wold Newton series, the late Farmer proved fond of enhancing the ‘biographies’ of famous literary characters, such as Verne’s Phileas Fogg and Burroughs’ Tarzan, with fanciful, ‘uncovered’ details. Here, collaborating with sf colleague and Wold Newton enthusiast Eckert, he recounts the fate of Patricia Wildman, daughter of pulp fiction icon Doc Savage. Part pulp romance, part erotic thriller, Farmer and Eckert’s yarn is a steamy, intriguing addition to Wold Newton lore.”

CRYSTAL NIGHTS AND OTHER STORIES by Greg Egan

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Crystal Nights and Other StoriesGreg Egan’s newest collection is just out. Crystal Nights and Other Stories is nearly a hundred pages longer than last year’s Dark Integers and Other Stories, and the contents just as good. As Booklist notes: “Egan executes…with a mastery of setting and characterization not commonly associated with writing concerned with such ‘hard-science’ subjects as AI. May he find as much fame and fortune as he will satisfied readers.”

THE EBB TIDE by James P. Blaylock

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The Ebb TideIt took ten years of pleading, cajoling, begging, and offering cold hard cash, but we finally convinced James P. Blaylock to revisit Langdon St. Ives and his crew in the novella, The Ebb Tide. Head over the book’s page and check out the description, excerpt, reviews, and some of J. K. Potter’s illustrations for the tale that Booklist lauds as “crackling entertainment”.

Alastair Reynolds — The BOOKLIST Review of THOUSANDTH NIGHT AND MINLA’S FLOWERS

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Thousandth Night and Minla's FlowersBooklist has chimed in with its opinion of Alastair Reynolds’ double novella collection, Thousandth Night and Minla’s Flowers, and we couldn’t be more pleased: “This two-story volume in the format of the old Ace double paperbacks—that is, designed to present a title page right-side-up when flipped over top to bottom—features one fantasy and one sf novella…Both stories are delightful displays of Reynolds’ excellent world building, characters, and epic politics—all condensed in them and richer for it.”

The signature pages are also en route to Wil for signing. Happiest has taken a bit longer than we anticipated to get moving, but we should have it out at the end of the year.

More Praise for SON OF RETRO PULP TALES

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Son of Retro Pulp TalesSon of Retro Pulp Tales continues to pick up praise, this time from Bookgasm: “Although pulp as a format may be long gone, pulp as a genre will never die … at least as long as it continues to be cared for, in good hands like those of Joe R. Lansdale and Keith Lansdale. The father/son team has a strong hold of the editing reins of Subterranean Press’ Son of Retro Pulp Tales, a sequel to the 2006 original.”

At this point, stories are out to authors for final proofing, and the signature sheets are nearly done making the rounds, meaning Son is right on schedule for publication this fall.
