Neil Gaiman — THE GRAVEYARD BOOK Update

Monday, April 20th, 2009

The Graveyard BookI woke this morn to an email from our shippers that the first 150 orders of Neil Gaiman’s instant classic, The Graveyard Book, will be en route to customers today, with another 100-150 orders likely to be sent out tomorrow.

Important Note:
Our printer accidentally shorted us on Graveyard, so we’ll fall slightly short of the full complement of 500 copies for sale. To that end, we’ve pulled the ability to order the book from our site temporarily, until we’ve completed shipping and can get a handle on how many copies, if any, we’ll have left.

A Starred Review for Robert Silverberg

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

TripsTrips, the fourth volume in The Collected Stories of Robert Silverberg has just received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, which summarizes the book in fine fashion: “Thought-provoking and deeply ironic, these stories and the others in this volume are as powerful today as they were when they first saw print.”

Important Note: Trips is already done and awaiting its turn in our shipping queue. We set the print run before reviews started flowing in, so we seriously underestimated the number of copies we’d need. This one won’t be around for long.

We’ve just posted preorder information for Mister Slaughter, Robert McCammon’s third entry in his Matthew Corbett series of historical thrillers. We’ve kept the numbered and lettered limitations low for such an important book, and expect both to sell out fairly quickly. (We’ve also promised copies to our regular dealers, making a quick sell through even more likely.)

Head over to the book’s page, check out the details, and get your order in if you’re of a mind.

Philip Jose Farmer — The Cover for THE EVIL IN PEMBERLEY HOUSE

Friday, April 17th, 2009

The Evil in Pemberley House.jpg

And here’s Glenn Orbik’s perfect cover for Philip Jose Farmer and Win Scott Eckert’s erotic gothic novel, The Evil at Pemberley House. If the cover style looks familiar, it might be because Glenn’s work has graced a number of Hard Case Crime covers over the past few years.

As to Evil, Win is going over the fully-designed pages (for the book proper, and the chapbook that comes with the limited edition) one final time, and then everything will be ready for the novel’s slot in our print schedule this summer.

Shipping Update — STEPHEN KING GOES TO THE MOVIES and More

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Stephen King Goes to the MoviesLater today our shippers will be sending out the last copies of Stephen King Goes to the Movies, the new 400 page collection — and the only hardcover edition — that features not only classic King stories and brief commentary, but full-page, full-color fake movie posters for each story by Vincent Chong.

Next up, our shippers will be sending out copies of Marionettes, Inc. (Ray Bradbury) and then moving straight into shipping our lavish Neil Gaiman limited edition, The Graveyard Book. Both titles are over 80% sold out, so order soon if you’re interested.

Ray Bradbury Update — Marionettes, Insects, and A PLEASURE TO BURN

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Marionettes, Inc.Next up in our shipping marathon is Ray Bradbury’s special collection of robot stories, Marionettes, Inc., of which Publishers Weekly said, “Cherry-picking the marionette-themed pieces from Bradbury’s extensive oeuvre creates a nicely unified tone… The end result is most appealing to Bradbury completists and those who want a good introduction to his work.” Like our other Bradbury titles, Marionettes is selling very well, and if the pace of orders continues, we won’t have copies in a month to six weeks after publication.

In other Bradbury news, Dave McKean has turned in the fully designed — and illustrated in full-color — chapbook, The Shop of the Mechanical Insects. We have to give this one another good proofing, put ordering details on the site, and then it’s off to the printer.

Finally, we’re pleased to announce that next year we’ll be publishing A Pleasure to Burn: Fahrenheit 451 Stories, which takes the contents of Mr. Bradbury’s limited edition of several years ago, Match to Flame, pulls out the facsimile material, and then adds three stories that have only been available in his chapbook, The Dragon Who Ate His Tail. Ours will be an unsigned trade hardcover, priced in the $35-$40 range.
