An Early Look at the Cover for MUSE OF FIRE by Dan Simmons
Here’s a very early, unfinished look at the gorgeous cover that John Picacio has come up with for Dan Simmons’ space opera novella, Muse of Fire. Both Dan and I were so taken with John’s vision, and his interweaving and layering of different elements and themes from the story that we agreed immediately that he’d be our choice for the covers to both The Terror and Drood, both of which we’re hard at work on. Just a reminder, this is an early look at the dust jacket art, not yet rendered in full color, with unfinished aspects, but it’s so impressive in this state that we couldn’t wait to share it with you.
As Dan noted in an email, “My opinion is that you’ve nailed it with the brilliant idea. It’s powerful, classy, thematically honest, and beautiful. (And I very much enjoyed seeing the roughs evolution of your visual thinking…a lesser artist would have been satisfied with one of the earlier compositions. As it is, the evolution is clearly evolution toward thematic clarity as well as superior composition.)”
