Project Moonbase and Others

Bob Eggleton found himself inspired by Robert A. Heinlein’s Project Moonbase and Others, and agreed to provide a couple of full color plates that will be reprinted in the book. We’d like to thank Bob for his generosity, and point you to the book’s page, where you can have a good look at both images.

Skeletons by Ray Bradbury — Dave McKean’s Illustration and Design

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Skeletons.jpg

Just yesterday, Dave McKean turned in the completely designed and illustrated version of Skeletons by Ray Bradbury, which contains the legendary version of his story “Skeleton” along with an ultra-rare version not reprinted in over 60 years. Dave initially agreed to provide 4 to 5 illustrations for the chapbook, which was to be printed in two colors. To our delight, Dave not only helmed the design, he provided 27 illustrations, bringing both tales to creepy life. This will truly be a classic presentation of some of Bradbury’s finest work, and a chapbook, now to be printed in black ink exclusively, we don’t expect to last long.

Green Man Review on HAGGOPIAN AND OTHER STORIES by Brian Lumley

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Haggopian and Other StoriesJust a part of the kind, perceptive review of Brian Lumley’s Haggopian and Other Stories, posted over at Green Man Review: “Still, the contents include over twenty stories, a meaty volume indeed, and one that will keep any fan of Lumley’s Cthulhu mythos work well satisfied for a good long while. Each story has an introduction by the author, mainly detailing the story’s genesis and publication. Along the way, other little tidbits get tucked in—I, for one, had no idea that Lumley used to be an avid hang glider—which gives the collection as a whole the sense of an old friend walking the reader through his bookshelf. Clearly, the book was put together with love, and with affection for the stories it contains. Many of them were written in the ’60s and ’70s, and as such they deserve some veneration as important landmarks in the evolution of Lovecraftian writing.”

Subterranean Online — New James P. Blayock and a Healthy Dose of Steampunk

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Subterranean OnlineThe Spring 2008 issue of Subterranean Online has kicked off in high style, with new stories by James P. Blaylock (a collaboration with Adriana Campoy), as well as tales by newer writers Ekaterina Sedia and Beth Bernobich. In an email, Beth described her story as an “SF, steampunkish, feminist, kind of yarn, with a high-atmosphere balloon escape and some explosions.” We’ll testify that it’s all that and more. If the fiction posted so far isn’t enough to tempt you, we also have a new interview with Sherrilyn Kenyon. Happy reading, and best of all, it’s FREE.
