TALES OF PAIN AND WONDER by Caitlin R. Kiernan

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Tales of Pain and WonderThe definitive edition of Caitlin R. Kiernan’s debut collection, Tales of Pain and Wonder, is in stock and shipping. Check out the book about which Publishers Weekly said (in a starred review, no less) “Together, the impact of these stories is stunning: glancing collisions between psychics, runaways, junkies, artists and whores (who, as in Kiernan’s Silk, function as a loose alternative to a family) add up to a portrait of something broken and beautiful.”

Warren Ellis & Caitlin Kiernan In Stock and Shipping

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Crooked Little VeinWe’ve just started the job of packing the orders for the debut novel by comics legend Warren Ellis. Crooked Little Vein is selling quite well, with approximately 430 of the 500 copies gone on publication. If you’re of a mind to pick up a copy, now’s a good time.

Also shipping, and doing quite well, is the definitive edition of Caitlin R. Kiernan’s debut collection, Tales of Pain and Wonder, with roughly 800 of the 1000 copy print run headed out the door. Don’t forget that by ordering direct from SubPress you also receive a 20k word chapbook of bonus material. Quantities on the latter are limited. We’ll pull the chapbook from the Tales page when it’s no longer available as a freebie.

In other news, four of our recently released titles have gone out of print shortly after publication: Golden Apples of the Sun (Ray Bradbury); Lye Street (Alan Campbell); The Lovecraft Chronicles (Peter Cannon); and The Voyage of the Proteus (Thomas Disch). We expect both the Ellis and Kiernan titles to follow suit before long.

More Ebay Auctions — Including Lettered Editions

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Three Days to NeverWe’ve posted another round of Ebay auctions (the second batch of three we have planned), and this time have added copies of a number of lettered editions to the mix, including some that have been listed as sold out on our website for some time.

Once again, each auction starts at just $9.95. With the lettered books retailing for prices as high as $600, you just might luck into a bargain.

A New Dust Jacket for Ray Bradbury’s GOLDEN APPLES OF THE SUN

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

GA_cover-yellow small.jpg

As we posted earlier, the trade edition of Ray Bradbury’s seminal collection, Golden Apples of the Sun, was sold out on publication. We ran into the problem that Mr. Bradbury wasn’t thrilled with the slightly revised color scheme to the cover of our edition, so we’re having new dust jackets printed for his copies of the book. To make our Lettered Edition even more desirable, we’ve decided to include the new version of the dj with it. Only a handful of copies remain unreserved, so if you’d like a rare piece of Bradbury memorabilia, get your order in soon.

New Books by Neil Gaiman, Ray Bradbury, Alastair Reynolds, Brian Lumley, and Scott Lynch

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

We’re in the process of finalizing contracts for a few new projects that will be on our schedule later this year or early next, including Skeletons by Ray Bradbury, which will contain his famous story “Skeleton” plus the ultra-obscure alternate version of the tale, which has not been reprinted in 63 years. Dave McKean will be illustrating the chapbook. We’re also adding The Six Directions of Space, a novella by Alastair Reynolds to the schedule, as well as the limited edition of Scott Lynch’s The Republic of Thieves, the third novel in his Gentleman Bastard sequence. Look for preorder announcements on these in the coming months.

That’s not all. We’re also negotiating a few big name projects we can’t even talk about yet!

Late word: We’ve also just received permission to announce that we have two Neil Gaiman limited editions coming out this year. The first is Interworld, a delightful YA novel he wrote in collaboration with Michael Reaves. Interworld is already completely designed, proofed, and ready to head to the printer as soon as the authors have had the chance to set pens to signature pages. The second book is Neil’s next major work, The Graveyard Book. Our edition will feature a substantially different design and artwork by Dave McKean, premium paper, and quite possibly our most lavish binding ever. Please sign up for our newsletter to get first word when we announce these for preorder.

Lastly, we’ve got a nifty project with Brian Lumley lined up for 2009. The Nonesuch and Others contains the original title novella, plus two related short stories, one of them very obscure. Bob Eggleton will be contributing a cover and a goodly number of black and white vignette illustrations for the interior.

Project Updates Galore

Here’s a first glimpse at what’s likely to be the cover to Steven Erikson’s Garden’s of the Moon, an image we think is up to Michael Komarck’s usual fine standards. We’ve also just received the illustration (by Bob Eggleton) for Robert A. Heinlein’s Project Moonbase and Others. Have a look down the page a bit for part of the wraparound dust jacket art.

As well, here are a number of titles already at the printer, with very tentative completion dates:

Dark Integers and Other Stories (Greg Egan) — 3/4
Crooked Little Vein (Warren Ellis) — 2/27
Tales of Pain and Wonder (Caitlin R. Kiernan) — 2/28
Altered Carbon (Richard K. Morgan) — 3/5
His Majesty’s Dragon (Naomi Novik) — 3/13
Snow Crash (Neal Stephenson) — 3/05 [note: we will need to have traycases manufactured once the book is in hand]

In addition, we’ve just sent several books to the printer, and don’t have ship dates yet:

New Amsterdam Trade Paperback (Elizabeth Bear)
On Stranger Tides (Tim Powers)
Rite trade paperback (Tad Williams)

New Tim Powers Dust Jackets Just Turned In

Monday, February 18th, 2008

J.K. Potter has done his usual exemplary job with the covers for Tim Powers’s Fisher King Trilogy (Last Call, Expiration Date, Earthquake Weather). We can’t share all of the dust jackets with you yet — in fact, we can’t easily share all of any of the dust jackets considering they’re wraparounds which have yet to be colored, but here’s a glimpse of the black and white front panels of each.Last Call cropped small.jpg

Earthquake Weather cropped small.jpg

Last Call and Expiration Date have already been fully designed, and we’ve just received the OCR’d file for Earthquake Weather, so all three are on schedule for release this September.

Subterranean Online — New Fiction by Joe R. Lansdale, Mike Resnick, Rachel Swirsky, and Tia V. Travis

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Subterranean OnlineIn case you haven’t been paying attention to the table of contents on the lower right hand side of our main page, Subterranean Online has published a ton of great fiction this issue, from an excerpt to Lewis Shiner’s upcoming novel, Black & White, to fine stories by Michael Bishop, Joe R. Lansdale, an all too rare appearance by Tia V. Travis, and another heart shattering tale by Rachel Swirsky, who we consider to be one of the two or three finest new short fiction writers we’ve run across in years.
