Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

CoralineWe’re making mondo progress on the limited edition of Neil Gaiman’s modern day classic, Coraline. The book itself has been completely laid out and sent to our proofer, the sig pages are en route to Dave McKean, and Mary Robinette Kowal is busy making the three Coraline dolls, one of which will be given away to someone who orders the book direct from SubPress. (Neil and Dave are getting the other two, in case you missed the initial announcement.)

Meanwhile, here are a few images showing the interior design:

Scott Lynch Update

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Red Seas Under Red SkiesWith just a little luck, it looks as though the limited edition of Scott Lynch’s Red Seas Under Red Skies will come out prior to its projected November publication date. All of the art is in house, the completed signature pages are due in our offices today, and our crack proofer is two days away from turning in the final round of changes.

If that’s not enough good Lynch news, yesterday Scott emailed me the first chapter — so we can have Edward Miller tackle the cover — of The Mad Baron’s Mechanical Attic, the first of the 45,000 word short novels he’s penning for us.

Look for more examples of the artwork soon, including a showstopping aerial battle by Anke and the full-color cover by Dominic Harman. This book is right on schedule for publication very late this year or early next. Later this week we expect to approve the final design and begin proofreading.

Promises to Keep

The glowing reviews for Charles de Lint’s novel Promises to Keep and Bruce Sterling’s Ascendancies keep piling up — this time, from Library Journal.

On Promises to Keep:
“Returning to one of his most beloved characters, de Lint brings to light another tale of enchantment and mystery, one that explores the choices people make and the promises they choose to keep.”

Ascendancies
On Ascendancies: The Best of Bruce Sterling:
“Always alive to the moment, always accepting the headlong rush of the future, Sterling’s short fiction deserves a place in every library’s sf or short story collection. Highly recommended.”
